Michael LaLonde

Deschutes Brewery has named Michael LaLonde (B.B.A. ’90) the president and CEO of the company. LaLonde, who started with Deschutes, a craft brewery in Oregon, as chief operating officer in 2005, effectively served as CEO since 2010. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance from Georgia State in 1990.

Justin Kirouac

Johns Creek assistant city manager Justin Kirouac (M.P.A. ’98) recently became the sole finalist to become the next Oconee County Administrator. Following a months-long search, Oconee County Commission Chairman John Daniell announced the selection of Kirouac, who earned his M.P.A. at Georgia State in 1998.

Kat Cole (MBA. ’10), has been named chief operating officer and president at FOCUS Brands, the franchisor of Auntie Anne’s, Carvel, Cinnabon, McAlister’s Deli, Moe’s Southwest Grill and Schlotzsky’s. It is a new position in which Cole will lead the company’s domestic franchise brands in addition to its licensing division. Cole joined FOCUS Brands seven years ago as president of Cinnabon and for the past three years has served as President of FOCUS Brands Global Channels group.

Adam S. Levin (J.D. ’07) was promoted to Managing Attorney for the Northeast Georgia Regional Capital Defender. His office is responsible for defending trial level death penalty cases in Northeast Georgia.

Tucker Stallings (B.B.A. ’16) was recently named Business Development Coordinator at Hotel Equitied Group, LLC in Atlanta. He began his career in hospitality more than five years ago at the Hampton Inn Greenville, NC. Stallings earned his B.B.A. in Hospitality Administration at Georgia State in 2016.

Dr. Kenyon Knapp (M.S. ’96) was recently one of three Mercer University professors selected as Governor’s Teaching Fellows, a highly selective program designed to develop important teaching skills through emerging technologies and instructional tools and sponsored by the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia.

Elise Greene Margol (M.S. ’94) recently joined TiER1 Performance Solutions in the Atlanta office as a Senior Solutions Consultant. Margol earned her M.S. in Human Resource Development at Georgia State in 1994.

Jill Murphy

Jill Murphy (B.Ed. ’96, M.Ed. ’00) has been named as the new principal at Barksdale Elementary School in Conyers, Ga. She has served as the assistant principal there since 2014. Murphy earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s in middle grades math education at Georgia State in 1996 and 2000.

Erin Glynn

Erin Glynn (B.A. ’06) earned her juris doctorate from the New England School of Law in Boston, and has been admitted to practice in the State of Georgia. Erin will be sworn in by Fayette County Superior Court Judge W. Fletcher Sams in July.

Susan Norton

Susan Norton (B.Ed. ’93, S.Ed. ’04) has been named as the new principal at Honey Creek Elementary School in Rockdale County. Norton moves to HCE after serving as principal at Barksdale Elementary School since 2014. Norton earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Georgia State in 1993 and her education leadership degree in 2004.

Dr. Brooks Seay (J.D. ’94) has been appointed interim president of Young Harris College. Seay has served as vice president for finance and operations and chief financial officer of the college for two years. Prior to her role at Young Harris, she was chief business officer and associate dean of the School of Law at Emory University.

Within this role, she will collaborate with the sales and creative teams to produce innovative live event experiences, galas, trade shows, fundraisers and festivals.

Bell (B.S. ’97), Deputy Court Administrator with the DeKalb County Superior Court, recently became a Fellow of the Institute for Court Management having successfully completed the rigorous requirements of the Fellows Program. Bell and 11 other court professionals took part in graduation ceremonies conducted at the Supreme Court of the United States in Washington, D.C.

Lex O. McMillan (M.A. ’75) recently retired as President of Albright College in Reading, Penn., and has been named President Emeritus.  In addition, the College’s Campus Center has been renamed in his honor. McMillan served as the college’s president for 12 years.

Amelia Anderson (MBA ’93), American Airlines’ managing director and assistant treasurer, has been chosen as Airfinance Journal’s Aviation Woman of the Year. Anderson, whose team is responsible for the execution and administration of American’s corporate debt, completing over $20 billion of financing transactions in the three years following the merger with US Airways in December 2013, won the process by an overwhelming majority of submissions received from the global aviation industry.

The new practice, located in Overland Park, Kan., serves patients in the Kansas City area and clients nationwide through their secure telemedicine platform.

Richard I. Berkowitz (B.A. ’93) has been appointed marshal of the DeKalb County State Court. Berkowitz has dedicated more than 24 years to serving and protecting the citizens of Georgia and DeKalb County through his work in law enforcement. He began his law enforcement career in 1994 with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office after graduating from Georgia State.
