Jamie Lea Shiver (B.B.A. ’13) has been named Event Operations Manager for Destination South Meetings and Events-A DMC Network Company. Within this role, she will collaborate with the sales and creative teams to produce innovative live event experiences, galas, trade shows, fundraisers and festivals.
Edwin T. Bell (B.S. ’97), Deputy Court Administrator with the DeKalb County Superior Court, recently became a Fellow of the Institute for Court Management having successfully completed the rigorous requirements of the Fellows Program. Bell and 11 other court professionals took part in graduation ceremonies conducted at the Supreme Court of the United States in Washington, D.C.
Lex O. McMillan
Lex O. McMillan (M.A. ’75) recently retired as President of Albright College in Reading, Penn., and has been named President Emeritus. In addition, the College’s Campus Center has been renamed in his honor. McMillan served as the college’s president for 12 years.
Andrew Jackson Murphy (Andy)
Andy Murphy (EMBA ’01) is Principal and Senior Investment Advisor for GENCapital, a new wealth management firm that opened with an office in Atlanta. Led by Andy and Jeff Buice, GENCapital offers investment management, financial planning and banking advisory services for individuals, families, businesses and institutions. GENCapital’s Investment Advisory services are offered through Main Street Financial Solutions, LLC, a federally Registered Investment Advisor based in the Northeast.
Jennie Ho (MBA ‘ 02) has been named the new President of Delta Vacations, a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines. Ho will build on the company’s award-winning reputation as one of the best tour operators in the business. She will bring to the position a heightened focus on making Delta Vacations the tour operator of choice for travel agents, partners and consumers.
Amelia G. Anderson
Amelia Anderson (MBA ’93), American Airlines’ managing director and assistant treasurer, has been chosen as Airfinance Journal’s Aviation Woman of the Year. Anderson, whose team is responsible for the execution and administration of American’s corporate debt, completing over $20 billion of financing transactions in the three years following the merger with US Airways in December 2013, won the process by an overwhelming majority of submissions received from the global aviation industry.
Dionne Denson, CGFM (B.B.A ’04) recently was named the chief financial officer of the Georgia Department of Public Health. Prior to her new position, Denson served as the deputy CFO at the department for four years.
Dan Pahnke (MBA ’95) has released his debut novel, “Us: An Intimacy Innovation,” an ambitious effort blending romance and relationship advice in a harmony he terms ‘practical fiction.’ This creative endeavor is a far cry from his day job as a consulting computer programmer in Tallahassee, Fla. John Thornton (Ph.D. ’99), associate professor in the Department of Finance at Kent State University, has been selected as the 2017 Beta Gamma Sigma Professor of the Year in the university’s College of Business.
Steven Katz (B.B.A. ’92) has joined Perimeter Commercial Real Estate as Director of Tenant Services/Associate Broker. Katz specializes in tenant representation for office and medical space users.
Dr. Janelle Louis (née Agard )(B.A. ’10) and husband Jeff Louis (B.A. ’08) have started the naturopathic functional medicine practice, Focus Integrative Healthcare (Focus Enterprises LLC). The new practice, located in Overland Park, Kan., serves patients in the Kansas City area and clients nationwide through their secure telemedicine platform.
Richard I. Berkowitz
Richard I. Berkowitz (B.A. ’93) has been appointed marshal of the DeKalb County State Court. Berkowitz has dedicated more than 24 years to serving and protecting the citizens of Georgia and DeKalb County through his work in law enforcement. He began his law enforcement career in 1994 with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office after graduating from Georgia State.

Sandy Ryles Semerad (B.A. ’82) has worked as a newspaper reporter, columnist and editor and has written three novels. Her latest A Message in the Roses is available online and in bookstores. A Message in the Roses is set in Atlanta and based on a murder trial she covered as a reporter. She is now working on the sequel. Sandy and husband, Larry, live in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. Ditzel was previously with boutique Atlanta family law firm, Kessler & Solomiany. The new firm, Abernathy Ditzel, LLC is located on the Historic Marietta Square, with an additional office in Atlanta at 200 Peachtree Street in Atlanta. The firm handle all areas of domestic relations law, probate law and personal injury.
Paul Martin (MBA, M.S.R.E, ’01) has joined Synovus Mortgage as a mortgage loan originator in Atlanta. Martin comes to Synovus with 24 years of experience. He was previously employed with with First Citizens Bank. Martin is a past-president of the Georgia State University Real Estate Alumni group. He earned his Master of Business and Master of Science in Real Estate degrees from Georgia State in 2001, where he was inducted into Alpha Sigma Gamma International Real Estate Honor Society.
The Bio/Med Investor Network (BioMed) recently announced the hiring of its first Managing Director, Stephen MacDonald (MBA ’08). In this role, he oversees network-wide projects ranging from planning and executing numerous events, marketing campaigns and coordinating all logistics for the network and its members. McDonald is a long-time member of the Georgia life sciences community.
