Patton Hall Dedication

Georgia State will dedicate its Freshman Hall housing building to former university president Carl V. Patton Tuesday, Feb. 26. Patton served as president for 16 years before his retirement in 2008. Patton, whose background is in urban planning, oversaw a dramatic period of growth, including the renovation of the Rialto Theater, construction of a student center and recreation facility and the Aderhold Learning Center. After the 1996 Olympic Games, Patton led the charge to purchase the athletes’ village to become the university’s first student housing.

Fittingly, the university will rename its Freshman Hall, which broke ground under Patton’s watch, after the president who ushered in the era of Georgia State students-as-residents.

The building dedication ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. the former Freshman Hall building .
